Bonhoeffer

This biography is extremely well-written, thoroughly researched, and completely documented. His total discipleship to God is exemplified by the fact that the testimony of this mere man serves as an inspiration more than 60 years after his murder at the hands of the Nazis.

His beloved church would become the unholy arm of an evil state.  Converted Jews were not allowed in Seminary, nor to be ordained, those that were, were not allowed to preach, and they were no longer allowed to attend church services.  His own twin sister, who had married a converted jew. was forced to flee to England.

He started the Confessing church and his own illegal seminary.  knowing his own life was in danger work was secured for him in America, but after a few weeks he gave up his security in America to help the true Christians (and unbelievers) in Germany.

He became involved in the plots to kill Hitler.  After three failed attempts he was arrested, along with several family members.  He spent almost two years in different prisons.  He was finally murdered at Flossenburg concentration camp just three weeks before the war’s end and his body was burned.

How can such a devote man plot to kill another human being?  From his own writings, he believed following God’s will was more important than being guiltless of sin.
